Although Kerri Strug and Robert Fischer met and live in the Washington D.C. area, the couple chose to return to their families in Arizona to celebrate their wedding. Kerri, a two-time Olympic gymnast, was born and raised in Tucson. Robert, an attorney originally from California, attended ASU law school. Both have family here in Arizona, so "coming home" was a natural choice for the pair.
Weddings at Skyline Country Club are a family tradition for the Strugs--Kerri's older sister was married there as well. They chose to include some of their hometown favorites in their celebration, including sushi rolls and Frost Gelato.
The wedding and reception included a garden of orchids, from the bride's gorgeous floral bouquet to the decorative table, chair and place settings. Wedding coordinator Anne Bryan helped the couple design a chuppah adorned with orchids and glowing candles. Following their happy exchange of vows, the couple joined their guests for cocktails at sunset.
From her inspiring years on the Olympic team, the bride went on to a career inspiring young people to reach for their dreams. On April 25, Kerri and Robert made their dreams come true with a beautiful day. Family and friends offered heartfelt congratulations to Kerri and Robert by placing handwritten messages on an elaborate wishing tree.
Following a multi-course dinner, presented on tables covered in gold lace, the newlyweds enjoyed a series of decadent desserts with their guests. Several flavors of their favorite gelato were served from an immense ice tower, while ten wedding cakes were presented on orchid-covered pedestals. Entertainment included a personalized video montage of the couple as well as dancing to the Robert Street Band.
In a brilliant finale to the celebration, the pair surprised their guests with a dramatic fireworks display.
